This is the third installment of ‘Habitat at Home’ Beauty Treatments.

2. Body Oil, Body Mist & Toner

Now, it’s Bath Time!

1. How to Make a Hydrating Bubble Bath

2. How to Make Cellulite-Fighting Body Scrub

3. How to Make a Plumping Face Mask

1. Milk & Honey Bubble Bath

1/3 cup powdered milk

1/2 cup olive oil

11/2 cups clear hand soap

1/2 cup honey

1 tbsp vanilla

1tbsp sea salt

Mix all the ingredients together and stir.

Shake before use, to be sure the ingredients are blended.

Why these ingredients?

The powdered milk is for the bubbles.  Bubbles are formed by long strands of protein.  These can be found in egg whites or milk.  The salt helps to evaporate the water molecules off of the bubbles, allowing them to last longer.  The honey and oil will hydrate the skin.  Soap needs to be part of the equation if you want to be clean.  Castile soap can also be used.

2. Cellulite-Fighting Body Scrub

1 cup ground coffee

1 cup raw sugar

1/2 cup coconut oil

1 tsp cinnamon

Put coffee and sugar into a bowl.  Before adding the coconut oil, whip it up with a fork, to lighten it’s density.

Add the rest of the ingredients, and mix with your hands.

Decant into a jar.

Apply, while in the shower.  First, wash with soap.  Turn off the water, and massage the scrub into the skin for a couple of minutes.  Rinse.

Why these ingredients?

The caffeine in the coffee will dilate the blood vessels, which helps to tone and tighten the skin.  It also increases circulation and reduces water retention.  It’s antioxidants will help to release toxins.  All of these factors in coffee, will help to reduce the appearance of cellulite.  Cinnamon plumps the skin and removes dead skin cells. The coconut oil binds it all together and hydrates.

3. Avocado Face-Plumping Mask

1/3 cup greek yogurt

1 avocado

1 tsp turmeric

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tbsp honey

Place all of the ingredients into a medium-sized bowl.  Stir until combined.

(Tip: To remove an avocado pit, whack it with a knife, and turn to pull out).

Decant it into a small jar.

Apply mask to face, and let sit for 20 minutes, before removing.

Why these ingredients?

Avocado has an amino acid called glutamine, which cleans and protects the skin from environmental damage. It has vitamin A, which is beneficial to the skin.  It’s oils deeply hydrate the skin.  The antioxidants in avocados help to remove toxins that quicken the aging process.  Turmeric has both anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.  It cleanses the skin to give it a radiant glow.  Cinnamon helps to plump the skin and removes dead skin cells.  Yogurt contains lactic acids, which gets rid of dullness and dryness.  It is rich in zinc, which helps clear acne and blemishes.  It also shrinks the pores.

Making the Labels

To make the Coffee Scrub label, I painted brown watercolor onto the base of a small jar.  I then practiced dabbing rings, unit I got something that looked like real coffee cup rings.

To make the Bubble Bath label, I flicked blue watercolor onto Avery Label stickers, with a brush.  I then drew the letters, leaving spaces where the blue dots are.  I outlined each dot with pencil, to make them more pronounced.
